So as I was saying on the previous page….  Everyone is Creative, Creating is good for you and it’s fun. We all knew this as children when we created freely but when we became adults we set up some rules – it has to be good, it has to be pretty, it has to have a purpose (a logical purpose), anything else is a waste of time. Our thinking on creativity got twisted – we began to think that what we create has to be important… important to others. It has to be serious… serious to others…… When what’s really, really important is for your creations to be important to you, and they always are when you allow them. They are also real serious (for you), seriously, they are communicating with you.

At these sessions I share a way that will re-teach a childlike (NOT childish!) attitude to creativity. There are NEW Rules:

• Your creation does not have to be pretty!
• You don’t have to like it… yet (nice long quote from Ira Glass here… http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/309485-nobody-tells-this-to-people-who-are-beginners-i-wish)
• No one else is allowed to judge it – it’s not for sharing
• You can’t judge it!
• Your creation is a work in progress… until you say “it’s finished”; a bit like you really!
• Your creation doesn’t mean anything until you give it meaning
• Always start with an intention (which I will help you formulate clearly for yourself)

These Rules create a different kind of space for creativity where amazing stuff can happen. Stuff like:

• Inner calm bubbling to the surface…. sometimes with a little sigh….
• Creativity blossoming
• People encouraging each other, naturally
• Big picture communication happening – a different type of dialogue

Your mind is always trying to understand the world around you, creativity can help it out!
